Club Champions League (CCL) earned 9 of 10 Virginia Youth Soccer Association (VYSA) State Cup titles. 6 of 14 Virginia-based CCL clubs earned state titles, with Beach FC (17 Girls and 19 Girls), McLean Youth Soccer (18 Boys and 19 Boys), and SOCA (15 Girls and 16 Girls) winning multiple. This marks another consecutive year for CCL teams to win the overwhelming majority of VYSA State Cup Championships.
Dan Ensley, technical director at SOCA, commented on his club’s success in the tournament, “We are excited how SOCA teams have competed in VYSA State Cup competitions. Adding 2 girls Virginia State Cup titles this past fall was a significant accomplishment and reflects our commitment to excellence in the development of all players. Being a member of the Club Champions League [CCL], SOCA teams are challenged weekly against many of the best clubs in Virginia, Maryland, and DC. It is not surprising to see how dominant Virginia-based CCL clubs have been in the VYSA State Cup over the last 5 years. Trying to win a league title against 16 other clubs, where every point matters, allows our players the chance and challenge of experiencing high-level regional competition on a weekly basis. We know that [CCL] play prepares our players to be successful in state, regional, and national events. We can also see the same effect with several other CCL clubs who have found great success within and beyond the VYSA State Cup competition.”
Under the CCL model, players compete for their teams, teams compete for their clubs, and thousands of matches are played to determine an overall Club Champion among 17 of the best youth soccer clubs in D.C., Maryland, and Virginia. Using the VYSA State Cup as a measure, it’s no question the impact this model has had on developing high-level clubs, teams, and players in the area.
Karl Greaves, the Girl’s Director of Coaching for Beach FC, shared a similar sentiment, “The Beach FC Girls program placed 4 teams in the Virginia State Cup Final Four and won titles at the U17 and U19 age groups. All four teams have shown consistent quality and an ability to win the tight matches over the course of their fall CCL league play and currently sit in 1st or 2nd place in the CCL. We are proud to represent our club and league at Regionals this summer and look forward to continued success for all CCL teams advancing to Regionals.”
